Man, 88, arrested for murder of elderly woman in Bukit Panjang flat

SINGAPORE: An 88-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (Jun 5) for the murder of a 74-year-old woman in a Petir Road flat, in Bukit Panjang.

The police said they were called to the scene at about 1am on Wednesday.

Officers found the elderly woman lying motionless and she was pronounced dead by paramedics.

In response to CNA’s queries, SCDF said it received a call for assistance at Block 137 Petir Road at about 12.45am on Wednesday.

The suspect was arrested at the scene, the police said.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that both parties are known to each other,” the police added.

When CNA visited the site at about 2pm, bloodstains were still seen on the floor outside the third-floor unit.

A neighbour, who said she has known both the suspect and the victim for at least a decade, said the pair had always been friendly.

She added that the elderly man and woman have a daughter and son.

The man will be charged in court on Thursday.

The offence of murder carries the death penalty.
