African Football League and DStv Premiership holders Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to announce a new left-back.
SEKHUKHUNE STAR TO MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
According to FARPost, Babina Noko’s 19-year-old left-back Asekho Tiwani has impressed Sundowns after playing 16 games last season.
“According to sources close to the negotiations, personal terms with the player are being discussed, and the two clubs are finalising the transfer details. The deal is expected to be completed in the coming days, ahead of the new season,” FARPost reported.
RULANI MOKWENA SAYS BONGANI ZUNGU REUNION IS POSSIBLE
Former Mamelodi Sundowns duo Rulani Mokwena and Bongani Zungu share a special bond, the new Wydad Casablanca head coach has revealed.
Soon after joining Moroccan giants Wydad last week, the 37-year-old Mokwena has admitted that signing the free agent Zungu remains a possiblity.
“I love Bongs,” Mokwena told Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000, as cited by iDiski Times.
“Bongs know me, I know him. It’s easier when you know the coach, the player knows you. There is a possibility. It’s not to say that the door is open, the door is closed.
“He knows, if he doesn’t find anything, he knows my number and he can always contact me. He’s someone that is very special to me,” the former Sundowns coach added.
SUPERSPORT UNITED FINILISING DEALS FOR MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
In case you’ve forgotten, Nyiko Mobbie and Ricardo Goss are Mamelodi Sundowns players. News coming out of Tshwane say the duo are set for permanent moves out of Chloorkop, rather than new loan spells.
The 29-year-old Mobbie signed for Kabo Yellow in 2019 from Free State Stars. Remarkably, the right-back from Shikundu, Limpopo spent the last four years on loan at clubs like Stellenbosch FC, Chippa United and Sekhukhune United. Meanwhile, Ricardo Goss, who signed for Sundowns in 2020 from Bidvest Wits, spent a loan spell with the defunct club and at SuperSport United.
According to SABC Sport, SuperSport United are finilising deals to sign both Mobbie and Goss from Sundowns on permanent deals.
“Mamelodi Sundowns pair of goalkeeper Ricardo Goss and defender Nyiko Mobbie are set to join crosstown rivals SuperSport United in the coming days, SABC Sport can reveal,” the report said.
“The 30-year-old [Goss] wants to continue playing regular football to remain in contention for the national team, ahead of crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers during the international calendar. According to information gathered by the public broadcaster, SuperSport are now in advanced talks to retain the shot-stopper’s services and will be joined by right-back Nyiko Mobbie, who has also been out on loan at Sekhukhune United.
“Both players were at the AFCON with Bafana earlier this year, as part of the group that clinched a bronze medal under coach Hugo Broos.
“Mobbie, now 29, joined Sundowns from the now-defunct Free State Stars five years ago, but struggled to break into the Tshwane giants’ starting line-up. He has since been around the block – having spent loan spells at Stellenbosch FC, then Chippa United and most recently Sekhukhune from September 2021 until the end of last season.
“SABC Sport understands Matsatsantsa are in discussions to also make the move for the defender a permanent one instead,” the report added.
