Mamelodi Sundowns R48.5m star is set to depart Chloorkop soon, according to iDiski Times.
Sundowns midfielder Matías Esquivel is set to make a high-profile exit from the club, heading back to Argentina’s Primera División with Club Atlético Talleres. The 25-year-old, who joined Sundowns from Club Atlético Lanús in January for a reported R48.5 million, has featured in 13 matches for the South African giants.
Talleres, which finished second in the league last season, has made a compelling offer for Esquivel, prompting the midfielder to request a return to his homeland. According to sources, Sundowns has agreed to a season-long loan deal with an option to buy, which satisfies both parties. Should the permanent transfer go through, Sundowns stands to make a profit, thanks to the favourable terms of the deal.
With Aubrey Modiba’s emergence as a key midfielder, Sundowns are comfortable with Esquivel’s departure. The loan move opens up a foreign player spot, potentially allowing Sundowns to register Abubeker Nassir if he stays put during the current transfer window.
Currently, Sundowns boasts a squad of foreign players including Marcelo Allende, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Arthur Sales, Abdelmounaim Boutouil, and Erwin Saavedra. Notably, coach Manqoba Mngqithi hinted that Saavedra might benefit from financial citizenship, a tactic Sundowns previously used for Dutchman Alje Schut in 2015.
Esquivel’s contract with Sundowns runs until June 2027, ensuring the club remains invested in his future while he returns to Argentina. Meanwhile, Esquivel and his family have already boarded a flight back
Venda FC signs Mamelodi Sundowns pair
In other transfer news, Venda FC has made headlines by acquiring Mamelodi Sundowns’ promising talents, Keabetswe Ramotsei and Mzwekhaya Nkonxeni. Both players join Venda from Sundowns’ DStv Diski Challenge team. Where they played pivotal roles in the team’s runner-up finish last season.
Venda, which finished 12th in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season, is aiming for promotion to the Betway Premiership. The additions of Ramotsei and Nkonxeni signal a strategic overhaul and an aggressive push for the top tier. Under the guidance of Duncan Lechesa, who played a crucial role in keeping the club from relegation, Venda FC is poised for a strong performance in the upcoming season.
Keabetswe Ramotsei: From Meadowlands to Venda FC
Keabetswe Ramotsei, who began his football journey in Meadowlands, Soweto, has shown impressive growth since joining Mamelodi Sundowns. His standout performances in the DStv Diski Challenge earned him a debut in the Carling Knockout Cup against TS Galaxy. Despite Sundowns’ narrow loss, Ramotsei’s talent was evident, making him a significant asset for Venda FC’s attack.
Mzwekhaya Nkonxeni: Strengthening Venda FC’s defence
Mzwekhaya Nkonxeni, alongside Ramotsei, has made notable contributions to Sundowns’ Diski Challenge squad with his solid defensive skills. Nkonxeni’s arrival at Venda FC is expected to enhance the club’s defensive capabilities and support their quest for promotion.
These moves highlight a dynamic shift in South African football. With both Mamelodi Sundowns and Venda FC strategically positioning themselves for future success with The South African.
