Kerala’s actor-turned-politician Krishna Kumar and his adorable family are quite the sensation on YouTube. However, they’ve attracted some negative buzz on social media lately. The reason? They’ve been ridiculed for their jesting remarks about the Hema Committee report – a serious document that sheds light on the disturbing circumstances of harassment and abuse faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.
Last week, an event unfolded when Sindhu Krishna, Krishna Kumar’s wife, posted a video on YouTube. The video gave a glimpse into the everyday life they lead, and it ended on a sweet note with Krishna and their little girl, Diya, having a chit-chat about a wedding that’s coming soon. In a light and amusing chat, they’re discussing what the family should wear at the upcoming wedding. Kumar, with a hint of humour, notes that his level of excitement might lead one to believe he’s the groom, rather than his actual role – the father of the soon-to-be bride.
Krishna then tells his wife in Malayalam, “You don’t say anything. This is the season of commissions. Don’t say marriage, etc. Do not come and knock on my door.”
Kumar’s habit of knocking at doors comes across as a biting commentary on the Hema Committee’s report. The report shed light on the distressing incidents faced by female actors in the film industry, where they had to endure the unnerving experiences of being bothered by inebriated people at their living quarters.
With a quirky smile, Diya Krishna confessed that she simply couldn’t grasp the discussion her parents were engaged in. Despite not fully understanding, she insists on keeping a hopeful outlook,” she expressed. “Ozy, a nickname for Diya, has been left in the dark regarding recent happenings. She’s pretty clueless about it all.”
Her mother noted. “She doesn’t need the rundown of absolutely everything. It’s enough for her to know just the key points. She needs to learn how to handle life’s hurdles,” adds Krishna Kumar. His wife goes on to point out that right now, Diya is mainly keeping tabs on the details of her soon-to-be wedding, specifically her saree and blouse choices. Their daughter joins in, stating she’s busy with her jewellery brand.
A Redditor didn’t hold back in expressing their distaste for a family that’s rich yet seemingly a source of pity. They even accused them of airing their dirty laundry online for a bit of fame. Yet another fellow Redditor just wished that the family would stop putting on airs, and would be true to their unpolished, raw personas instead.

Once the report was made public, renowned Director Ranjith and actor Siddique stepped down from their influential roles in a government-run film academy and AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) respectively, addressing accusations of sexual misdeeds.
