Doughnuts aren’t the first thing that springs to mind when it comes to home-baked goods, but there’s no reason why they shouldn’t.
A TikTok chef has shared the simplest doughnut recipe that uses just four ingredients and takes minutes to follow.
Sharing a video on the TikTok account Caught Snackin’ (@caughtsnackin), the content creator revealed the cooking “hack” for these bitesize sweet snacks.
They said: “Only two ingredients in these fluffy doughnuts? No way… look at the fluff. Doughnuts with minimal work.” While the basis of the dough is comprised of flour and yoghurt, there are a few extras needed to complete the recipe.
Regardless of this, the doughnuts have been praised by fellow TikTok users, including one who commented: “I’m so lazy so I love these easy, minimal ingredients and quick recipes!! Thanks.”
Easy doughnuts recipe
Ingredients
80g plain flour
100g plain yoghurt
Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
Cinnamon sugar, to coat (caster sugar and ground cinnamon)
How to make doughnuts
Making the dough is very simple. Just sieve the flour into a bowl and add the yoghurt, then take a spatula and mix the ingredients to form a nice thick dough.
It will be a little sticky from the yoghurt but don’t fear as this is what gives the “fluffy” texture inside, according to the TikTok chef.
Next, fill up a large saucepan with enough vegetable oil to submerge the doughnut balls. Heat this to 180C, then when hot, carefully lower the batter into the oil.
To portion the dough, use an ice cream scoop to gather neat spoonfuls of the dough at one time – this will create a uniform, bite-size doughnut.
Allow the doughnuts to cook in the oil until nicely golden, then carefully lift them out with a spatula or slotted spoon.
Meanwhile, combine half a cup of sugar with one tablespoon of ground cinnamon in a bowl (or add more to ensure there is enough to coat the doughnuts). Alternatively, use premade cinnamon sugar.
Take the doughnuts straight from the oil dip them in the cinnamon sugar and use a pair of cooking tongs to roll the doughnuts around.
Some TikTok users were surprised by the recipe, with one person commenting: “Seriously this is how you make yoghurt doughnut?! and I’ve never tried it before?! I will make them at the weekend!” Another chimed: “Look at the fluff”.
However, others were less impressed, claiming that “you could taste the yoghurt in the dough”.
