Shaina NC will file her nomination at noon tomorrow, which is the last day for filing nomination.
Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) has named BJP leader Shaina NC as the candidate from Mumbadevi constituency for the upcoming Maharashtra legislative assembly elections.
The decision came as one of the many surprises thrown up by the tussle over seats on either side in the assembly elections in Maharashtra.
The 51-year-old will file her nomination at noon tomorrow, which is the last day for filing nomination.
Shaina is currently a spokesperson of the BJP. The Mumbadevi constituency is a part of Mumbai Lok Sabha seat and has been represented by Congress since 2009.
Earlier it was reported that the BJP leader was in fray for the Worli assembly seat, which has gone to Shiv Sena’s Milind Deora.
“I am not at all upset. It is the party and the alliance’s decision to select the candidate. I congratulate my friend Milind Deora on his candidature as the Mahayuti candidate for the prestigious Worli assembly constituency,” news agency ANI had quoted Shaina as saying.
The Worli constituency will see a high-profile contest between Deora and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray.
The Shiv Sena released its third list of 13 candidates on Monday. Besides Shaina, former BJP lawmaker Raosaheb Danve’s daughter Sanjana Jadhav has also bagged a ticket from the Shiv Sena.
Jadhav will contest from Kannad in Aurangabad district (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district). The seat is currently represented by Udaysing Rajput of the Shiv Sena (UBT).
Two of the 15 seats were given to regional allies of the BJP-led NDA — Jansurajya Paksh and the Rajarshi Shahu Vikas Aghadi. The Jansurajya Paksh has fielded its member Ashokrao Mane from Hatkanangale, while the Rajarshi Shahu Vikas Aghadi has given ticket to Rajendra Patil Yedrawkar from Shirol. Both seats are in Kolhapur district.
Maharashtra will vote in a single phase on November 20, while the counting of votes would take place on November 23. In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP won 105 seats, the Shiv Sena 56, and the Congress 44. In 2014, the BJP secured 122 seats, the Shiv Sena 63, and the Congress 42 seats.
