The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance achieved a remarkable victory in the recent state assembly elections, securing 230 out of 288 seats in the legislature.
Bouncing back from its Lok Sabha election losses, the BJP won 132 seats, the highest among all Mahayuti constituents. Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP also performed strongly, with Shiv Sena winning 57 seats and NCP securing 41. In contrast, the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) faced a significant defeat. The Congress had one of its worst showings in the assembly elections, winning just 16 seats. Sharad Pawar’s NCP(SP) managed only 10 seats, while Uddhav Thackeray’s UBT secured 20.
The Maharashtra assembly elections were held on November 20, and the results were announced on November 23.
On Tuesday, Eknath Shinde resigned as chief minister to Governor CP Radhakrishnan. However, the governor asked Shinde to continue serving as the caretaker chief minister until a new government is formed.
