The success press conference of Maharaj was held today at Mumbai’s YRF studios in the presence of its lead star cast – Junaid Khan, Sharvari, Shalini Pandey and Jaideep Ahlawat – along with director Siddharth P Malhotra. The director, in his opening speech, made some interesting comments about how Junaid was cast in the role of Karsandas.
Maharaj success press conference: Siddharth P Malhotra talks about Junaid Khan’s debut: “It’s not a typical launch ki ‘Aamir Khan ka beta hai aur pehli picture hai aur yeh aapki first line hogi’”
Siddharth P Malhotra began by saying, “Junaid and I had met before. Then I saw his screen test. We didn’t want a typical film hero. I realized that Junaid is a very sincere and honest person. What we were looking for in Karsandas, I got it in Junaid. We also knew that this was not a typical star kid launch.”
He continued, “After we narrated to him the script, he took a day to make up his mind. When he agreed to do the role, we were very happy because we were not presenting him with action, dance and that kind of stuff. Instead, we depicted him in dhoti, kurta and a moonch! His first lines in the film are, ‘Thodi chutney dena’! Hence, it’s not a typical and conventional hero launch ki ‘Aamir Khan ka beta hai aur pehli picture hai aur yeh aapki first line hogi’!”
Siddharth added, “Hence, we are very thankful that he chose this film. I am happy and proud that he’s getting all the love. He’s already shooting his third film. There are not many newcomers who are even shooting their second film (during the release of their first film).”
Maharaj released directly on Netflix and marks the first film of Yash Raj Films to premiere on the streaming giant, bypassing the theatrical route. It was originally scheduled to drop on Netflix on June 14. However, on June 13, the Gujarat High Court stayed its release after allegations were made that it hurt religious sentiments. On June 21, the High Court lifted the stay and immediately, the film was released online.
