Macy’s Promotes Sabina Israelian-Garcia to SVP, GMM for Home, Foods and Toys

Macy’s has promoted Sabina Israelian-Garcia to senior vice president, general merchandising manager of home, foods and toys.

Israelian-Garcia, who most recently served as Macy’s vice president divisional business manager of big ticket merchandise — furniture, mattresses, rugs and home gaming — will focus on diversifying the product assortment and strengthening brand partnerships in the categories she now covers, the company indicated. She will report to Nata Dvir, Macy’s chief merchandising officer.

Some of the key brands in home include Macy’s private brands such as The Hotel Collection and Charter Club, as well as Nespresso and Ugg. In Toys, she leads the partnership with Toy “R” Us and some key toy brands include Lego, Barbie and Hot Wheels. In food, brands include Starbucks, It’Sugar, Godiva and Frango.

Macy’s, in partnership with WHP Global, started rolling out Toys “R” Us shops at most of its stores in October 2022, beginning with a 14,000-square-foot department at the Herald Square flagship. Other Toys “R” shops at Macy’s range from 1,000 to 10,000 square feet. Toys “R” Us is also on macys.com. WHP Global, a New York-based brand acquisition and management firm, owns a controlling interest in Toys “R” Us as well as Babies “R” Us and more than 20 consumer toy and baby brands.

“Sabina’s strategic vision and leadership, coupled with her experience in managing the business holistically from operations to product, will advance our merchandising initiatives as part of our company’s Bold New Chapter strategy,” Dvir said in a statement. “Her deep product knowledge and commitment to cultivating a results-oriented, positive culture are key to driving growth within our home, food and toys categories.”

Macy’s Bold New Chapter strategy involves closing approximately 150 Macy’s department stores through 2026 and devoting more resources to the 350 better-performing doors that are slated to stay open. The strategy also calls for larger investments in luxury and further expansion of the small-format brick-and-mortar chains — Bloomie’s, the specialized and downsized Macy’s units, and Bloomingdale’s outlets and Backstage off-price units.

Earlier in her career, Israelian-Garcia served as group vice president of merchandise, drugstore and beauty at H-E-B, a Texas grocery retailer. She joined Macy’s in 2023 initially as vice president and divisional merchandise manager of big ticket. She has also worked as a merchandising planner at Bloomingdale’s and manager of strategic planning at West Elm.

In her new role, Israelian-Garcia succeeds Stephen Moore, who retired last January as senior vice president and general business manager for home, leased areas and foods. Moore spent 33 years with Macy’s.
