CHANDIGARH: Special Election Expenditure Observer, Election Commission of India, B.R. Balakrishnan, on Tuesday has expressed satisfaction over the seizure of liquor, narcotics and other valuables during the elections by various enforcement agencies and said that the agencies will have to keep a close watch on the checkpoints on May 25.
There should be police surveillance on liquor factories also, said Sh.Balakrishnan while holding a meeting with the Chief Electoral Officers of Haryana and Punjab held at the UT Guest House here today.
Cash worth Rs 14.94 crore has been seized in Haryana
In the meeting, Chief Electoral Officer of Haryana, Anurag Agarwal said that till now illegal liquor, drugs and valuables worth Rs. 62.03 crore have been seized in the state. This also includes cash worth Rs 14.94 crore.
This action has been taken by the Police, Income Tax Department, Excise and Taxation Department and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). Till now, maximum cash amount of Rs 3.12 crore has been seized in Gurugram district, while cash amounting to Rs 1.71 crore has been seized in district Rohtak, Rs 1.51 crore in district Karnal, Rs 1.46 crore in district Sonipat and Rs 1.37 crore in district Sirsa, shared Sh. More than 4,03,898 liters of illicit liquor worth Rs 13.28 crore seized
Agarwal said that more than 4,03,898 liters of illicit liquor worth a total of Rs 13.28 crore has been seized by various agencies. A maximum of 84,954 liters of illicit liquor worth Rs 3.64 crore has been seized in Sonipat district.
After that, 34,315 liters of illicit liquor worth Rs 1.54 crore has been seized in district Faridabad, 25,667 liters of illicit liquor worth Rs 1.22 crore has been seized in district Palwal. Apart from this, the agencies have seized narcotics worth Rs 13.74 crore. Not only this, valuables worth Rs 16.70 crore and other items worth Rs 3.30 crore have also been seized.
Haryana Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Hema Sharma, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Rajkumar and other officers were present in the meeting.
