Lok Sabha Election 2024 Live Updates: The process for filing nomination papers for the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls begins today, March 20. The gazette nominations will be issued for 102 constituencies across 21 states and Union territories where polls will be held in phase one. This includes 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, 12 in Rajasthan, eight In Uttar Pradesh, six in Madhya Pradesh, five each in Assam, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand, four in Bihar, three in West Bengal, two each in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Meghalaya and one each in Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Jammu and Kashmir, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tripura, Sikkim, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Chhattisgarh.
Furthermore, to file nominations, general candidates will have to deposit a security deposit of Rs 25,000, while Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates will have to deposit a sum of Rs 12,500. March 27 is the last date for filing of nominations, while voting for the first phase is scheduled to be held on April 19. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on March 28 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 30. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
