Ladakh representatives to meet MoS Home to press for demands

Srinagar: The representatives from Ladakh on Monday said that they have “huge expectations” from Tuesday’s meeting with the Union minister of state for home affairs in New Delhi. They are hopeful that it will be result-oriented.

Seven representatives each from Apex Body Leh (ABL) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), along with two chief executive councillors of Autonomous Hill Development Councils in Leh and Kargil and Ladakh’s Lok Sabha member Mohammad Haneefa Jan, are scheduled to meet minister of state for home Nityanand Rai around 5 pm.

“This meeting is happening after a long gap and is very important. We have huge expectations from this meeting and it has to be result-oriented,” said Chering Dorjay of ABL. He further said that there should not be a gap of more than a month between the two meetings.

Dorjay informed that KDA and ABL representatives met in New Delhi on December 1, stating that they will reiterate the four main demands of statehood, implementation of sixth schedule, a separate public service commission and two Parliament seats for the Ladakh region.
