Kusha Kapila Reveals Why Samay Raina’s Jokes were Censored on Pretty Good Roast Show: ‘It Dehumanised Me’

Kusha Kapila opened up about her association with Aashish Solanki’s ‘Pretty Good Roast Show’. In her conversation, she brought up that she wasn’t compensated for her participation and candidly expressed her discomfort towards the jokes pointed at her. Scroll down to find more details.

On the Pretty Good Roast Show, Kusha Kapila addressed the unfavourable comments Samay Raina made about her split with Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia. Samay Raina had broached some contentious points about the actress’s private life, which led to the cutting out of some of his remarks. Even though Kusha weathered the roast with a sense of humour, a section of her followers wasn’t too pleased with Samay’s fun-poking. Read on to find more details.

Recently, Kusha took to the community tab on her YouTube channel to share her perspective about the situation. Kusha said, “Friends, a recent roast I was a part of has led a lot of my female and queer followers to question why did I sit through something that could have been completely avoided and WITH GOOD REASON. Here’s my two cents: It was done in good faith and for a friend. Nobody has been paid (neither comics nor guests) for it so the argument that people are ‘being paid big fat cheques to hear their insults’ is baseless (sic).”

Kapila further continued, “This has been a huge learning for me too since over the course of last six months during negotiations, I have been told that I deserve these jokes and that as a divorced woman, I should have seen this coming. Maybe I should have and maybe silence on this topic is seen as cowardice but it’s mostly choosing peace over endless discourse that will likely villainise women. Simultaneously, when you don’t speak, people also choose to believe whatever they want to. So this is me clearing the air as much as I can and advising women artists to have strict riders in place (sic).”

Kusha Kapila made it clear that she wouldn’t be part of any more roasts until she knows the content in advance. She didn’t quite take to Samay’s humor as expected, much like several women in the audience. Yet, she remained proud of her strength in weathering the jokes and brilliantly responding with her own punchlines.
