Kom ons braai! Ireland squad dines Mzansi-style in Durban [video]

The Ireland national rugby squad – who will face the Springboks in Durban next -have enjoyed a South African culinary cuisine: a braai!

The team has been out and about in the sunny city, where they play South Africa in their second test match on Saturday, 13 July.

The game will take place at Kings Park Stadium.

IRELAND SQUAD ENJOY A BRAAI IN DURBAN

In a video posted on X, rugby commentator Murray Kinsella revealed that the Ireland squad were enjoying a braai at their Umhlanga hotel in Durban.

“Proper South African dining,” he tweeted.

Saffas, particularly Springbok supporters, were amused to see their rugby rivals take a leaf out of the country’s cookbook.

@CaptSpringbok: “The dream, braai next to the pool! 🙌”

@jethroGG: “This will bank you guys an extra 5 points on Saturday 🥩”

@DeepKunene: “Make sure they eat pap as well for some strength.”

‘THEY STARTED SPEAKING AFRIKAANS TO ME’

Hilariously, many rugby fans have made the mistake of assuming Ireland player Josh van der Flier is from South Africa.

The rumour kicked off on the X app, and the Dublin-born star has had to correct it more than once.

He told the Irish Times this week: “One of the hotel staff started speaking Afrikaans to me. It takes a while to explain that I’m actually Irish.”

WHAT HAVE TEAM IRELAND BEEN UP TO SOUTH AFRICA?

Apart from braaing, Team Ireland has been busy soaking up the sun at a safari park and enjoying a cool dip in an ice bath.

They’ve also visited a children’s charity, the School of Hard Knocks, where they spent time with underprivileged youth.
