Knifeman kills 2 and injures 21 in attack at hospital in China’s Yunnan province
At least two people were killed and 21 injured in a knife attack at a hospital in the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan, police said on Tuesday.
The suspect was identified as a male villager armed with a knife from Poji, a town in Zhenxiong county, the local police bureau said.
So far no motive has been given for the attack, which took place shortly after 11.30am local time.
It is not known whether the attacker has been detained or was still on the loose.
So far little is known about the victims, but police said they were being treated in hospital. State news agency Xinhua said the “relevant information is being verified”.
Zhenxiong, situated in Yunnan’s northeast, borders Guizhou and Sichuan provinces and until 2020 was classified as being “poverty stricken”.
In January, the county was hit by an avalanche that killed 44 people.
