Sayani Gupta reveals spine-chilling incident with co-actor
In an interview during the promotion of her film Khwabon Ka Jhamela, the 39-year-old actress emphasised the importance of intimacy coordinators in films and television. Sayani expressed her appreciation for the presence of intimacy coordinators in Bollywood, similar to practices in the West. She believes their role helps maintain boundaries during shoots, ensuring a safer and more respectful environment.
During a recent interview with Radio Nasha, Sayani opened up about some unsettling experiences she faced on set. She recalled a time when, despite the director calling “cut,” her co-actor continued with a kissing scene, making her feel extremely uncomfortable. While she did not name the co-actor, this incident led her to reflect on the need for more safety and respect for actors in the film industry.
Sayani also mentioned another unsettling experience while shooting for Four More Shots Please Season 1. She had to lie on the beach in a short dress in front of around 70 people. After the shoot, she hoped that someone would provide her with a shawl, but no one was attentive to her security. She expressed concern that often the safety of an actress—or anyone on set—is overlooked. “Sometimes, an actress’s security, or anyone’s safety, is the last thing considered. It’s a mindset that needs to change,” she said.
On the importance of respecting boundaries on set, Sayani highlighted the critical role intimacy coordinators play. They not only ensure the safety of actresses during intimate scenes but also make sure their consent is always respected. Sayani emphasised that until this mindset changes, many actresses in the industry will continue to face insecurity and insensitivity.
Amidst all of this, Sayani Gupta recently starred in the romantic comedy Khwabon Ka Jhamela, alongside Prateik Babbar. Released on November 8 on JioCinema, the film has received positive feedback from audiences.
