As the Netflix mini-series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack continues to gain praise, actor Rajiv Thakur recently shared how his close friend and comedian Kapil Sharma played a pivotal role in helping him seize the opportunity. Thakur, who plays one of the hijackers in the Anubhav Sinha-directed series, revealed that he almost turned down the role due to scheduling conflicts. However, it was Kapil’s support that allowed him to be part of the show.

Kapil Sharma Encourages Rajiv Thakur
In an interview with IndiaToday.in, Rajiv Thakur recalled how his dates for IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack clashed with Kapil Sharma’s scheduled America tour. Thakur had initially planned to decline the Netflix series, having already committed to perform on The Great Indian Kapil Show’s international tour. However, when Kapil Sharma learned about the situation, he encouraged Thakur to prioritise the series.
“It’s all thanks to Kapil that I managed to do the show. The series team asked for my dates in June last year, but those dates were already blocked for Kapil’s America tour. I had decided to say no. But when Kapil got to know, he told me, ‘Tu series kar, hum show push kar denge’ (You do the series, we’ll push the show),” Rajiv said. Thanks to Kapil’s support, the tour was postponed to July, and Rajiv Thakur was able to join the cast of IC 814.
A True Friend’s Support
Rajiv Thakur expressed his gratitude towards Kapil Sharma and their colleagues from The Great Indian Kapil Show. He mentioned that Archana Puran Singh, a fellow cast member, was particularly supportive, acknowledging that his moment in the spotlight was long overdue. “Archana ji was so happy and even posted a long note about us after watching the show,” Thakur shared.
Thakur also recounted how Kapil Sharma watched IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack late at night and sent a message to director Anubhav Sinha. Kapil called Rajiv the next morning, sounding proud and excited for his friend’s achievement. “This makes me so much happier. This is what true friends do, isn’t it?” Rajiv added.

In IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Rajiv Thakur takes on the challenging role of Ibrahim Akhtar, a terrorist mastermind known as “Chief.” His portrayal has been well-received by viewers and critics alike. Having appeared in the first season of The Great Indian Kapil Show, Rajiv is also expected to return for the upcoming second season.
