The release of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency has been postponed. The movie was supposed to hit the big screens on September 6, 2024.
Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut is gearing up for her next release, one of the highly anticipated films, Emergency. The actress has been vigorously promoting the film. However, on Sunday, several media reports claimed that the release date of Kangana’s Emergency has been postponed, likely due to issues related to the film. This news was shared by trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

On August 31, the Punjab and Haryana High Court addressed a complaint filed by Mohali residents Gurinder Singh and Jagmohan Singh. They petitioned for the removal of Emergency’s censor certificate, granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and requested that the film be reviewed by prominent Sikh leaders before its theatrical release.
Bathinda’s MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal also voiced his opinion on the film’s release, stating that the film should be reviewed by the SGPC before its worldwide release. During an interview, Harsimrat said, “I haven’t seen the film, but if any party fought the biggest struggle during the Emergency, it was the Shiromani Akali Dal. The late Parkash Singh Badal was the first to lead the movement and get arrested along with others.”
The news of the hold on the film’s release comes days after Kangana alleged that the film’s clearance was “stopped” because CBFC members have been receiving threats.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Kangana shared in a video, “There are rumours doing the rounds that our film, Emergency, has been granted a censor certificate. This is not true. In fact, our film had been cleared, but certification has been stopped because many threats were coming in. Death threats. The Censor Board members are getting threats. We are under pressure not to show the assassination of Indira Gandhi, not to show Bhindranwale, not to show the Punjab riots. I don’t know what will be left to show then… This is unbelievable for me, and I am very sorry for the state of things in this country.
