Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign released a new ad on Monday touting her record on the border, an issue many have called one of her weakest.
In the ad, a narrator outlined her record as a “border state” prosecutor as well as her support for the border bill that was killed at the direction of former President Donald Trump:
Kamala Harris has spent decades fighting violent crime. As a border state prosecutor, she took on drug cartels and jailed gang members for smuggling weapons and drugs across the border. As Vice President, she backed the toughest border control bill in decades. And as President, she will hire thousands more border agents and crack down on fentanyl and human trafficking. Fixing the border is tough. So is Kamala Harris.

The issue of immigration was a major part of Harris’s role as President Joe Biden’s second-in-command. Under their watch, the number of unlawful border crossings surged to record levels. While she was never officially named the administration’s “Border Czar,” political opponents have pointed to Biden giving her a lead role in stemming root causes and Harris’s work on illegal immigration as evidence of her failure to alleviate the influx of migrants.
