Kalki 2898 AD draws heavily from the Mahabharata, set in a dystopian future and following the lives of four central characters. Deepika Padukone portrays Sumathi, a pregnant woman carrying the child prophesied to be the 10th avatar of Vishnu. Amitabh Bachchan plays the immortal Ashwatthama, tasked with protecting the unborn child.
Kamal Haasan takes on the role of the ruthless villain Supreme Yaskin, who seeks to kill the child, fearing it will be his downfall. Lastly, Prabhas portrays Bhairava, a bounty hunter willing to sell anyone for money.
The India.com review of Kalki 2898 AD reads, “Kalki 2898 AD combines action, visual spectacle, and a fusion of mythology with technology and science, making it a film worth watching. The post-credit scenes add an extra layer of intrigue. Despite a sluggish first half, the film redeems itself with a powerful second half and strong performances from its lead actors. Amitabh Bachchan’s role is particularly noteworthy, adding depth and gravitas to the film. Also, if you’re familiar with the Mahabharata, Kalki 2898 AD will be more relatable and enjoyable.”
