Kaizer Chiefs major managerial target now unavailable

Kaizer Chiefs will be discouraged to hear that reported coaching target Manqoba Mngqithi has no intention of leaving his current post at Sundowns.

Mngqitihi is happy at Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs are on the lookout for a new permanent coach. Foreign names Alexandre Gallo and Vanderlei Luxemburgo have been bandied about this week, but local names Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqitihi are still very much on their shortlist. According to the latest update from Mngqithi’s agent Mike Makaab, however, Chiefs might have to look elsewhere for a coach.

“Yes. We at the moment are speaking to Mamelodi Sundowns. Manqoba (Mngqithi) is happy at the club. We’ve said this all along and now it just depends on us coming to an agreement with the football club to extend his contract. It’s still early days as far as the negotiations are concerned, but I’m hoping that within the next seven to 14 days. So, within the next couple of weeks, we’ll have more clarity on Manqoba’s future. He’s extremely happy at the football club.” Makaab said to Gagasi FM as per Soccer-Laduma.

DUBA BAGS MAIDEN KAIZER CHIEFS GOAL

Back on the pitch, and 19-year-old Wandile Duba bagged his first senior Amakhosi goal on full debut to give them three precious points against Golden Arrows on Tuesday night. Orlando Pirates face Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday before their much-anticipated meeting with Chiefs on Saturday. Duba was substituted with an apparent ankle knock but the teenager says he’s fit and firing. He’s also sounded a warning to the Buccaneers:

“It’s not something that you can worry about. I think the physios will do something but I’ll be ok for the derby,” he told SuperSport TV.

“They should expect me because I’m coming.”
