‘Kaizer Chiefs made a big offer for Khanyisa Mayo BUT…’

Khanyisa Mayo has just left the country to sign for Belouizdad in Algeria, but could’ve easily signed for Kaizer Chiefs!

Chiefs were known to be keen admirers of Mayo during his time in South Africa, but couldn’t strike a deal!

Mayo has signed for Belouizdad

In the end it’s the Algerian giants Belouizdad that were able to offer the financial package Cape Town City wanted. That saw the player relocate to North Africa and put an end to widespread rumours linking him to Chiefs or even Mamelodi Sundowns. According to his agent Basia Michaels, the player was not of interest to Masandawana recently. She does admit, however, that Amakhosi put in a huge offer for Mayo and he was close to joining them!

“Chiefs had also put down a significant offer for Khanyisa (Mayo), a few moments before we had actually penned our deal with CRB. I do think had the deal fallen out with CRB, Khanyisa would’ve gone to Chiefs. But he always wanted to leave South Africa. It’s something that he’d always expressed to me, I’ve been representing him since 2018. I think Chiefs fell short because they were seconds too late from the offer that was made from CRB. From CRB, Khanyisa does have an opportunity to move into Europe. It would be a lot harder for him to move from Chiefs to Europe. If he does something amazing at CRB within in his first season, I can tell you there will be suitors from the European market that will come knocking for him.” Said Michaels to Sports Night Amplified as per iDiski Times.

Came close to joining Chiefs!

That could be painful stuff for Chiefs fans to digest, as the club are in desperate need for a number nine. They have already missed out on the likes of Iqraam Rayners, Lebo Mothiba and Luther Singh. Amakhosi fans, was Mayo the type of striker you needed? Feel free to leave your thoughts and comments below!
