The junior doctors’ body discussed the future course of action at a mass convention, attended by people from across the society, from rickshaw pullers, IT professionals and senior doctors to football fans, actors and filmmakers. The October 2 rally will be followed by a meeting at Esplanade in Central Kolkata. On September 29, the protesting junior doctors will organise protests at their respective localities involving the local people.
The protest has been named ‘Parai thkachi eksath, Utsave Noi Protibade’ (Together at locality, but in protest and not to celebrate festival)”. “We are not in a mental state to celebrate the festival on the occasion of the forthcoming Durga Puja,” said a forum representative.
Debasish Halder, a junior doctor who is a key face of the protest, said: “We have arranged two programmes on September 29 and October 2, where people from various sections of the society will participate. Our movement is a mass movement.”
National award-winning film director Kausik Ganguly said: “When doctors have to sit on roads, things are not good. You are not alone. Sandip Ghosh (the corruption-accused ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College) is everywhere. Time has come to do the cleaning of the entire system. We must wait and be patient.”
