Junaid Khan, Aamir Khan’s son, has received a lot of media attention because of the controversy surrounding his debut film, Maharaj. Junaid reflected on the film, mentioning that his father, Aamir Khan, had viewed it a few months before and enjoyed it.
Junaid Khan reveals father Aamir Khan is very supportive; says, “He normally lets us do what we want to do unless we ask for something very specific”
When asked if he sought counsel from his father, he told news agency ANI, “He (Aamir) normally lets us do what we want to do unless we ask for something very specific; then he gives advice. But he liked the film. Kuch mahino pehle dekhi thi unhone film aur unko kaafi pasand aayi (He saw the film a few months ago and he liked it).” He added, “He normally tends to give very good advice but otherwise, he doesn’t get involved in… he lets his kids be.”
Junaid, who was born to Aamir and his first wife, Reena Dutta, plays Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer in the film. Maharaj is a period drama set in pre-independence India and is based on the 1862 Maharaj Libel Case. The film is produced by Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films and directed by Siddharth P Malhotra.
After being lauded for his portrayal, Junaid expressed his pleasure for the film’s overall positive response and said, “I am grateful for the by and large positive response that Maharaj has received. So yeah, it’s quite satisfying. I guess all is well that ends well.”
The film also starred Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey, and Sharvari Wagh. YRF presents Maharaj as a tribute to Karsandas Mulji, one of India’s finest social reformers.
On June 21, Netflix released the film on their platform. It was earlier supposed to release on June 14. However, only hours before its scheduled premiere, the Gujarat High Court granted a stay order, delaying its release.
