Johannesburg Water has thrown Northriding and its extensions into a water supply crisis today due to unforeseen maintenance.
The maintenance operation, which impacts Bellairs Street, Balmdgord Road, and Derby Road, is scheduled to run from 8:00 to 18:00 on 6 February.

The purpose of this urgent intervention is to lower the existing 160mm UPVC pipe to accommodate a new entrance for a petrol garage.
Water service interruption inevitable
This upgrade involves the replacement of the existing pipe with a new 160mm MPVC, resulting in the unavoidable interruption of water services throughout the operation.

Customers in the affected areas will bear the brunt of this situation, experiencing a complete absence of water supply during the specified maintenance period. Residents are strongly advised to plan ahead, storing water for essential needs to mitigate the inconvenience.
Johannesburg Water emphasises that this unplanned disruption is crucial for the installation of upgraded pipe infrastructure. This, in turn, enhances the facilities of the local petrol garage.

Johannesburg Water has not arranged water tankers
Despite the inconvenience caused by the water interruption, Johannesburg Water has not arranged for water tankers in the affected areas. They cite unsuitability for their deployment during the maintenance operation.
“Location of water tanker not applicable, ” said Johannesburg Water.
