On 14 May, residents of several Johannesburg suburbs, including Alexandra, Kew, Lombardy, Wynberg, Kelvin, Buccleuch, and Marlboro, will face a temporary disruption in their water supply due to planned maintenance activities.
The affected streets include 13th, 14th, 17th, and 20th Avenue, as well as Rooth and London Road. The maintenance is scheduled to take place from 7:00 to 17:00, impacting customers with no access to water during this period.
The interruption is necessary to facilitate the tie-in of a new water pipe to the existing mainline, aimed at improving water infrastructure and service delivery in the region.

Johannesburg Water, the entity responsible for water and sanitation services in the city, emphasises its commitment to exploring innovative models to maximise service provision amidst economic challenges.
Nombuso Shabalala, the Spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, acknowledges the economic hurdles facing South Africa, including rising unemployment and escalating national debt, which have strained resources and necessitated creative approaches to service delivery.
Despite limited funding and increasing demands, Johannesburg Water remains dedicated to extending basic services to underserved communities through initiatives like the Informal Settlements Upgrade Programme.
In addition to infrastructure expansion, the entity prioritises maintenance and refurbishment projects under its Infrastructure Investment Programme to enhance resilience and reliability.
The entity underscores its commitment to addressing interruptions and bursts promptly through the Water Services Programme, aiming to reduce leaks and sewer blockages.

To ensure financial sustainability, the entity plans to implement a Revenue Enhancement Programme targeting reductions in Non-Revenue Water and improved meter reading accuracy.
