PRESIDENT Joe Biden has called for a number of changes to the US Supreme Court as he enters the last few months of his presidency.
The suggested reforms include the removal of presidential immunity for crimes, a crackdown on ethics rules for justices, and the introduction of term limits.
It comes after the President wrote an op-ed published in the Washington Post on Monday morning.
Biden will call on Congress to make the changes at the LBJ Presidential Library to honor the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, a White House official has confirmed.
“I served as a U.S. senator for 36 years, including as chairman and ranking member of the Judiciary Committee. I have overseen more Supreme Court nominations as senator, vice president and president than anyone living today,” the President wrote.
“I have great respect for our institutions and separation of powers.
“What is happening now is not normal, and it undermines the public’s confidence in the court’s decisions, including those impacting personal freedoms. We now stand in a breach.”
