Joanna Jedrzejczyk would ‘come out of retirement’ for women’s BMF belt

If the UFC decides to create a women’s BMF title, Joanna Jedrzejczyk wants to be the first to fight for it.

Jedrzejczyk (16-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC), a former five-time defending UFC strawweight champion, was inducted into the modern era wing of the UFC Hall of Fame this past Thursday. She joined Ronda Rousey as the only woman in the UFC Hall of Fame.

Jedrzejczyk hung up her gloves after a knockout loss to Zhang Weili in June 2022. She admits that she misses competing, but it would take something exciting to bring her back – like a BMF title fight.

“I would love to (fight), but I don’t have a name in my head.” Jedrzejczyk told Cageside Press. “I don’t know – whoever. I’m not afraid to fight anybody, that’s the thing. Of course, when they brought my name (as a BMF), I texted Hunter (Campbell) right away.

“I was like, ‘So, Hunter what do you think about me fighting for the female BMF belt,’ and he was like, ‘No, you don’t need more titles.’ … If they create the BMF for women, I want to be the first. I would come out of my retirement to fight for the BMF belt. Let’s go.”

Being in attendance for Saturday’s UFC 303 event at T-Mobile Arena has made it even harder for Jedrzejczyk to not think about fighting.

“When I’m at events like this UFC X, when I hang out with my friends or when I’m at UFC events, I feel the itch,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I always tell my manager, maybe I should fight, maybe I should be back out of retirement. I have the itch.”
