Dr Talat Majeed, a former member of the banned Jama’at-e-Islami J&K, is contesting the Pulwama Assembly constituency as an independent candidate in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Historically, Jama’at-e-Islami members have adhered to a policy of non-participation in elections, a stance maintained since 1987. The party was also part of the separatist Hurriyat Conference from 1993 to 2003, during which it advocated for election boycotts.
