Alia Bhatt, Vedang Raina’s ‘Jigra‘ directed by Vasan Bala had clashed with ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video‘ at the box office. The movie brought out Alia in an action avatar, something she’s never done before and she was called the Lady Bachchan (the angry young woman), from the trailer itself. Incidentally, the film had also released on Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday. But it did not have that sort of a massy appeal which Big B’s angry young man movies had in the 70s and 80s.’Jigra’ always had that niche, multiplex movie vibe and hence, it was not even expected to bring in those huge numbers.
Unfortunately though, it could not even match up to the limited expectations that were attached to it. It did well in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore in multiplexes but didn’t strike a chord in other parts. ‘Jigra’ had an average second weekend but saw a huge dip from Monday onwards. It made only Rs 60 lakhs on Monday and that’s the same number even on Tuesday, according to Sacnilk. Thus, the total collection of ‘Jigra’ so far, is Rs 28.40 crore.
Earlier, it was expected that the film will have a lifetime business of around Rs 40 crore but that looks difficult now. It may end up between Rs 32-35 crore which also could be a struggle. Meanwhile, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ has crossed Rs 35 crore.
They have a week more to make the most of their run before ‘Singham Again‘ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ come up this Diwali.
