Vice President JD Vance received backlash from conservatives on Thursday after it was announced that his first sit-down interview would be conducted by Face the Nation moderator Margaret Brennan.
After CBS News political reporter Olivia Rinaldi broke the news that Vance would grant his first interview as vice president to Face the Nation on Sunday, conservative media figures criticized the decision.
“Why is Vance rewarding a corrupt Democrat partisan who tried to rig a debate with his first interview as VP?” reacted The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis. “CBS is trash.”
The Federalist’s editor-in-chief Mollie Hemingway also criticized the decision, accusing Vance of rewarding “a left-wing media outlet by giving them his first interview.”
“This cuts both ways, because reach is reach, and if the liberal media gets a little better than good?” tweeted Fox News columnist David Marcus. “But yeah, running to the people who called you racist and transphobic for attention is somewhat unseemly. And possibly a mistake.”
Former Trump White House press secretary Sean Spicer mocked, “I wonder what the bet was he lost,” before suggesting that every question would be about the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots.
Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume remarked, “He ran rings around her when he was on that show during the campaign,” while Trump ally Laura Loomer protested, “I’ll never understand why Leftist media that tried to destroy @JDVance and @realDonaldTrump are rewarded with exclusive interviews as opposed to those who were supportive and ethical.”
Brennan received criticism from Republicans in October after she fact-checked Vance during the CBS vice presidential debate and asked him about his previous comments comparing President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.
Just this month, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) snapped at Brennan during an appearance on Face the Nation and accused her of holding an anti-Trump bias.
“You should worry about reporting the news fairly, which you don’t do when it comes to everything Trump!” he said.
