Janet Jackson cancels SA performance after brother’s death

Janet Jackson has officially withdrawn from her upcoming performance at the DStv Delicious Festival this weekend following the death of her brother, Tito.

The 58-year-old was billed as a headline act for the two-day event on Saturday, 21 September. The festival takes place at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on 21 and 22 September 2024.

Tito – an original member of the Jackson 5 – reportedly died from a heart attack. Funeral plans have yet to be announced.

The singer’s representatives added that the singer would plan a return to South Africa for a future date.

It continued: “Janet wishes to thank all of her South African fans for the warm and heartfelt support she is receiving at this difficult time.”

WHO WILL REPLACE HER?

While DStv Delicious Festival attendees will be sympathetic to Janet Jackson’s family tragedy, many will likely wonder who will replace her as the headline act.

Janet was scheduled to be the main act on Saturday, while fellow US crooner Jill Scott is also expected to headline Sunday’s performance.

Local acts will include the likes of Thandiswa Mazwai, Cassper Nyovest, Sjava, Robot Boii, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Jesse Clegg, Zolani Mahola, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse and many, many more.

Organisers have yet to announce her replacement.
