There is nothing better than something cheesy and comforting to lift your spirits, which is why these cheddar scones are perfect to make yourself.
Jamie Oliver’s cheddar cheese and chive scones are incredible to make as all you need is your air fryer, which means you do not need to worry about getting the temperature or timing correct.
On his website, Jamie said: “Let me show you how well you can bake in the air fryer – this is a brilliant little recipe that I know you’re going to love.
“These savoury scones are absolutely delicious – crispy and golden, but also fluffy inside – and you can knock them together really quickly.”
It only takes 10 minutes to make these scones before they go into the air fryer to cook for 12 minutes, meaning it takes a total of 22 minutes to make them from scratch.
Method
To begin, sift the flour, baking powder and mustard powder into a mixing bowl, stir it together and then add a pinch of cayenne pepper and salt.
Take the butter straight from the fridge and cut it into cubes, then use your hands to rub it into the flour mixture until you have small cornflake-like pieces.
Grate 100g of the cheddar cheese, chop up the chives and add both to the mixture. Make a well in the middle of the mixture, pour in the milk and use your hands to bring everything together and turn it into a soft, dry dough.
Dust a kitchen counter with flour, work the dough until it is three centimetres thick, and cut into six triangular wedges.
Brush the wedges with some milk, grate over the rest of the remaining cheddar cheese and sprinkle a little more cayenne pepper on top.
Rub the inside of the air fryer with one tablespoon of olive oil, set the temperature to 180C and cook for 12 minutes.
You may need to cook them in batches, but once the time is up, you will have some incredibly cheesy savoury scones.
If you wish to make a dip for your scones, grate the lemon zest and mix it with the cream cheese, then drizzle with olive oil and season with black pepper.
