Israel targeted a building in the Mazzeh Al Qadimeh neighborhood in Damascus, Syria, on Tuesday evening, a correspondent for the Syrian state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
The Iranian embassy is located in the Mazzeh Al Qadimeh neighborhood.
“Israeli aggression targeted a residential building in the Mazzeh neighborhood in Damascus,” the correspondent claimed, adding that initial reports had come in indicating the casualties had occurred due to the event.
Seven people were killed in the attack, including two non-Syrian citizens, Saudi news agency Al-Hadath reported, citing the Syrian Observatory For Human Rights.
The number of dead from the allegedly Israeli strike in Damascus, Syria, on Tuesday has risen to nine, Saudi state-owned Al Arabiya reported on Wednesday morning.
A meeting between senior officials
The building the attack targeted was frequented by Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps and Hezbollah officials, the Saudi network added.
Earlier, the SANA correspondent reported that Syria’s air defense engaged hostile aerial targets and that explosions were heard in the skies over Damascus.
Citing a military source, SANA reported that at 8:15 p.m. local time, Israel fired three missiles from the Golan Heights at a building in the Mazzeh Al Qadimeh neighborhood.
The source claimed that seven civilian fatalities were thus far confirmed as a result of the incident, and others were wounded.
The IDF has not taken responsibility for the alleged strike.
Earlier strike on Mazzeh Al Qadimeh area
Earlier this month, SANA claimed that three civilians were killed and three others were wounded in an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in the Mazzeh Al Qadimeh neighborhood.
