iPhone owners told to update popular app that’s draining their battery as bosses apologise for ‘significant problems’

Sonos launched a whole new app that works with its premium speakers on May 7.

But users have complained of issues such as playlists not working and failure to connect with devices ever since.

Bosses have apologised for the chaos, admitting that “too many of you have experienced significant problems with our new app”.

“Since May 7, we have released new software updates approximately every two weeks, each making significant and meaningful improvements, adding features and fixing bugs,” CEO Patrick Spence wrote on the Sonos website.

“While these software updates have enabled the majority of our customers to have a robust experience using the Sonos app, there is more work to be done.”

He added: “We deeply appreciate your patience as we address these issues.

“We know we have work to do to earn back your trust and are working hard to do just that.”

Furious users have threatened to scrap their Sonos speaker over the problems.

“We have 11 SONOS speakers at home, and I‘m thinking to throw all of them,” one person wrote on X.

“Without a feasible software, the (good) SONOS system is useless.”

Another said: “Throw the whole thing out and revert back to the old app. New one is completely broken.”

In the latest update for iOS, Sonos says it should address two problems.

Writing on Reddit, a rep for the company said it improves the stability when adding new products and addresses an issue where the app used excess phone battery.

MORE UPDATES TO COME

Sonos has revealed a roadmap for even more updates to the app as it tries to fix stability bugs.

In August, it’s expected to implement Music Library configuration, browse, search, and play.

And between August and September, the firm hopes to address volume responsiveness, interface improvements, as well as overall stability and error handling.

Sometime in September, Sonos plans to roll out an improvement to alarm consistency and reliability.

Then, between September and October you should see the return of edit mode for playlists and the queue, plus improved functionality in settings.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best…

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X or later model), then tap in the bar and type a currency (like $200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier
