NEW DELHI: A day after Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee mimicked Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar in front of Parliament during the protests against suspension of many members, PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday spoke to the Rajya Sabha chairman expressing great pain over the “abject theatrics” by the opposition MP.
The PM said he had been at the receiving end of such insults for the past 20 years but it was unfortunate that it has happened to the country’s VP that too in front of Parliament.Dhankhar said that he assured the PM that the antics of a few won’t prevent him from performing his duty and upholding the principles enshrined in the Constitution. “I am committed to those values from the bottom of my heart. None of the insults will make me change my path,” Dhankhar said in a post on X. As Dhankhar shared the details of his conversation with the PM, several senior leaders also expressed regret over the incident.
