A pub known for having one of the cheapest meals in the UK has caught the attention of food critics.
The esteemed restaurant critic and star of ‘Gary Eats’ on YouTube has left viewers astounded after showcasing a Scottish gastropub’s incredible three-course meal deal for just £4.
With his impressive 35-year tenure in the food business, Gary roams the UK to dissect and appraise Britain’s culinary spots.
The Star Bar, tucked away in Glasgow’s southside, boasts an admirable 4.5-star Tripadvisor accolade and, in Gary’s words, it’s a well-deserved recognition.
Despite his “wholesome” vegetable soup being served up without bread, Gary voiced that it was perfectly acceptable considering the entire feast came with just a four quid price tag.
Delighting in the soup, he expressed: “If I made this at home, I’d be proud,” adding that the cost was “absolute madness”.
The gastropub’s signature chicken casserole, a favourite among regulars, likewise won over Gary, reports Glasgow Live.
He also highlighted the steep price of a McDonald’s Big Mac meal, costing around £7, and pointed out that unlike such fast-food fare, “this is proper cooking.”
As well as its gastronomic offerings, The Star Bar’s penchant for affordability shines through its beverage prices too, selling Guinness pints for £3.95 and lager at a modest £3.25.
The Star Bar’s kitchen has received acclaim for its nostalgic and classic culinary style, best typified by their dessert choice – a simple yet delightful jelly and ice cream. Critic Gary was notably touched by the dessert, which brought back fond childhood memories.
He ended his review with a glowing commendation: “I think what they’re doing here for the locals is fantastic.”
