Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, and Chandra Barot encouraged producer Nariman Irani, who owed Rs 12 lakh following the failure of his debut movie, to start a new project. Nariman decided to develop a movie based on his friends’ recommendations. Chandra Barot was tasked with directing the movie, and Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, and Chandra Barot accepted the starring parts. However, the storyline of the movie presented the greatest challenge. Surprisingly, Nariman Irani’s wife Salma was Waheeda Rehman’s hairdresser. Salim and Javed received her husband Nariman Irani’s recommendation from her via Waheeda. The filmmaker duo informed them that nobody was prepared to buy our story in such a circumstance.

Prominent figures such as Dev Anand, Jitendra Dharmendra, and Prakash Mehra rejected the film. Amitabh Bachchan was the talk of the town following the release of Zanjeer. He was among those who assured him that he wouldn’t accept payment for the movie. They will receive payment if the movie is successful; otherwise, they won’t.

Amitabh Bachchan and Chandra Barot found the story of this 1978 smash appealing, and producer Nariman Irani took it from there. Salim and Javed used to refer to the script as ‘Don‘ story. Chandra Barot found this name appealing as well. Nariman Irani registered the movie under the name ‘Don’ after realizing this. The film’s soundtrack was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji. Did you know the song ‘Khaike Paan Banaras Wala’ was penned for Dev Anand’s movie Banarasi Babu?

Don‘, the well-known action-thriller movie starring Amitabh Bachchan, was released in 1978. It is regarded as one of the most well-liked blockbuster movies of that time. In addition to Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman, the film starred Pran, Iftekhar, Helen, Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappu, and Pinchoo Kapoor. The film, which was directed by Chandra Barot and written by the popular duo Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar), centred on Amitabh Bachchan, who played two roles: that of Bombay underworld leader Don and his doppelgänger Vijay.

The movie greatly aided Amitabh Bachchan’s career. The narrative of the film remained vibrant in people’s memories. In addition, movies based on its narrative are still being produced today and doing well at the box office. Amitabh Bachchan’s Don received a remake, starring Shah Rukh Khan. Both films had made enormous sums of money.
