With a staggering budget of Rs 350 crore, the star-studded movie was an overblown actioner. After ‘Adiprush’ debacle, this high-end actioner…
Despite having a massive budget of Rs 350 crore, the movie has only made a pitiful Rs 45.55 crore (net) in its first six days in India. Out of all the recent big-budget, tentpole, star-studded spectacle films that capitalize on the hyper-nationalism that is currently present in the country, this was the lowest premiere day total in India. Adipurush was labelled last’s year biggest flop after the box office losses of an estimated Rs 225 crore. However, a new competitor has emerged for the title.
The film is none other than Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The narrative centres on two court-martialed officers who are unabashedly patriotic: Captain Firoz, also known as Freddy, the Bade Miyan (Akshay Kumar), and Captain Rakesh, also known as Rocky, the Chote Miyan (Tiger Shroff). Their goal is to avert India’s destruction at the hands of the villainous Dr. Kabir, also known as Pralay (Prithviraj Sukumaran). Manushi Chhillar played Captain Misha, who showed her fighting prowess while Alaya F essayed the role of nerdy Dr. Pam.
According to the entertainment tracking web Sacnilk, the film made Rs 111.49 crore gross globally and Rs 65.96 crore net in India. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’s losses may have been considerably greater when factoring in marketing expenses and the version of the movie that distributors purchased, as per several trade experts.
In fact, there were several rumours regarding Vashu Bhagnani and his son Jackky Bhagnani’s production company, Pooja Entertainment. From selling the office building to not paying the dues after Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’s box office disaster. He, however, dispelled the reports in an interview with the Times of India and said, “I have been in the business for the past 30 years. If there are people who claim that we owe them money, they should come forward and talk to us. Do they have proper contracts with Pooja Entertainment? Have they filed a case regarding this? There are so many ways to sort this rather than ranting on social media. If there is an issue, we will resolve it. Nobody is running away. Please come to my office, talk to us, give us your documents and give us 60 days to figure things out. I am not going to buckle under any pressure or blackmail.”
Following the box office flop of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which starred Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, there were claims that the production business was scaling down production and firing employees.
Countless undiscovered tales are only waiting for their opportunity. If only our filmmakers occasionally took a break from their cliches to breathe some new air and perhaps gain some perspective.
