This was one of the biggest flops in Bollywood. The movie featured big actors, but did not even mint Rs 15 crore at box office.
Vikas Bahl is a renowned director known for his successful films such as Chillar Party (2011), Queen (2013), Super 30 (2019), and Shaitaan (2024). Despite his impressive track record, there was one film that failed to meet expectations. The sci-fi thriller Ganpat, made with a massive budget of Rs 200 crore, failed to make an impact at the box office. The film not only underperformed commercially but also adversely affected the reputation of its lead actor.
Released in 2023, Ganpat featured big names including Amitabh Bachchan, Tiger Shroff, and Kriti Sanon. The movie initially created a decent buzz, but it ultimately flopped spectacularly.
Do You Know How Much Ganpat Minted at the Box Office? It Was Just…
Despite the film’s extensive marketing, Ganpat turned out to be a major flop. The makers had high hopes for the film, but after the first box office collection reports, it became evident that the movie would struggle. Despite being produced with a whopping Rs 200 crore budget, the film managed to collect barely Rs 20 crore, making it one of the year’s biggest flops.
Audiences criticized Ganpat for its incoherent and poorly constructed narrative. Many felt that the film lacked direction and failed to deliver a compelling story. Director Vikas Bahl addressed the negative reviews and the film’s poor reception.
Regarding the film’s issues, Vikas Bahl admitted that he himself struggled to understand the direction of Ganpat. He had significant doubts about the storyline. Bahl revealed that Ganpat was a dream project for him, which he approached with great enthusiasm. However, as the project progressed, the story began to diverge from his original vision.
In an interview, he said, “While I was writing the story of Ganpat, it kept evolving in unexpected ways. I didn’t even realize when it shifted to a future backdrop. When I reviewed the story, I found it difficult to determine how to narrate it. I just knew that it had to be finished.”
