Inacio Miguel unveiled the allure of the Betway Premiership as he became the latest Angolan to grace our shores.
Chiefs’ latest signing, Miguel, has shed light on why more Angolan players are joining PSL clubs. Three weeks ago, Miguel transitioned from Angolan giants Petro de Luanda to the Soweto giants, driven by a desire for a new challenge.
Miguel, who made history as the first Angolan footballer to play for Chiefs, made an impressive debut on September 14, helping his team secure a 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants at Toyota Stadium in a Betway Premiership match. His smooth adaptation to the team highlights the growing trend of Angolan players in the South African league.
PSL: The best league in africa according to Miguel
Miguel praised the South African Premier League, calling it one of Africa’s top leagues. “I think people don’t understand how good the level of football is in South Africa,” Miguel stated. He emphasised that while North African leagues are strong, the Betway Premiership stands out in his opinion.
Miguel further elaborated. “For us, in Angola, we see this league as one of the most competitive leagues, with lots of good teams fighting for first place. This is what motivates us to come here because we know that this league is competitive and offers growth for the future.”
Network of Angolan talent: The Growing presence
Miguel also touched on his relationship with Gilberto, a fellow Angolan footballer who recently joined Orlando Pirates. “He is a very good friend of mine and a brother to me,” Miguel shared. He speculated that Gilberto might also have been attracted by the quality of South African football.
The PSL is witnessing a rise in Angolan talent, with players like Carlinhos of Cape Town City FC, Gilberto of Orlando Pirates, and Miguel himself making their mark. Historically, the league has also seen players such as Hugo Marques and Jo Paciencia (Cape Town City FC). Jose De Oliveira and Jose Pereira (SuperSport United), Amardo (Hellenic), and Antonio Correia (Ajax Cape Town) grace its fields.
As the PSL continues to attract top talent from across Africa, including Angola. It reinforces its reputation as a premier destination for footballers seeking to advance their careers. Miguel’s insights reveal why the Betway Premiership is increasingly viewed as a top choice for ambitious players.
