‘I’m a weight loss expert – there’s reason why I avoid grated cheese’

When taking on a new weight loss plan, it is important to make sure you’re being sustainable about it.

Learning to eat the things you love in the right portions and moderations can help you stick to your plan longer. But it can be hard to wrap your head around it – especially when you’ve been lead to believe many of your favourites are too “fattening” to eat when dieting.

Cheese is one of those foods. Even though dairy is actually an important part of a healthy and balanced diet.

The calcium and protein in cheese are great for building strong bones and muscle. It also contains high amounts of vitamins A and B12, along with zinc, phosphorus, riboflavin and essential fatty acids.

But it is important to make sure you portion it out correctly, which is why personal trainer Lauren Scully has offered her advice online. The fitness guru, who posts online as @leanwithlaurenx, claims she avoids buying grated cheese because it’s more difficult to portion.

Instead, she recommends buying a pack of sliced cheese as it is already portioned out. In a video, which gained more than 4,000 likes, she explained: “Right, guys, here is my biggest tip for cheese.

“You could buy this [grated] one, which is 50% less fat or you could buy this [sliced] one which is less fat. But which one is better for fat loss?

“Well, which one is easier? This one is because this one is already portioned out in slices, whereas this one, you could easily rack up the calories by putting way more on.”

In the caption, Lauren continued: “Whats the best cheese for fat loss? There is no best cheese for fat loss, just follow a calorie deficit!

“However, you can make your life easier buy buying slices of cheese instead of grated cheese then you don’t have to guess the amount or weigh it out.”

TikTok users were left stunned by the clip as they took to the comments to praise her for the advice. One user said: “Your videos are so helpful!!! Thanks for sharing them.”

Another added: “Never miss a beat your videos are unreal and so helpful,” while a third commented: “Love your video hunni x.”

However, not everyone agreed with her as some argued that people could just weigh their food out. A viewer argued: “Biggest tip for cheese?! You can easily weigh the grated cheese for portion control. I don’t want sliced cheese on some food types. Each has a use.”

A second critic penned: “You can still have the grated cheese just weigh it on a scales and calculate the cals from the grams of cheese you use.”
