BERKELEY — Early returns have Igor Tregub leading his four opponents in the bid for Berkeley’s District 4 council seat.
In the race for the District 4 council seat are Rubén Hernández Story, chief of staff for District 2 Councilmember Terry Taplin; Rent Board Commissioner Soli Alpert; community volunteer Elana Auerbach and Igor Tregub, policy director at Reimagine Power.
As of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, Tregub was leading the race with 32.7 percent of the vote, followed by Hernández Story with 25.58 percent, Auerbach with 24.25 percent and Soli with 17.46 percent, according to the Alameda County Elections Office.
District 4 covers downtown and central Berkeley, and currently has a total of 7,453 people registered to vote, according to the Alameda County Elections Office. The district was previously represented by former Councilmember Kate Harrison, who resigned from the role earlier this year, citing concerns with city bureaucracy.
Harrison is still currently running for mayor. Her resignation came shortly after Rigel Robinson stepped down and suspended his mayoral campaign. Recent UC Berkeley graduate Cecilia Lunaparra won her bid for Robinson’s seat during a special election in April.
