Puja Khedkar, a 32-year-old IAS officer, has recently taken on the role of assistant collector at the Washim District Collectorate in Maharashtra. Her arrival follows a period of intense scrutiny and controversy surrounding her conduct and allegations of misused privileges.
Khedkar, who secured an All India Rank of 841 in the UPSC exams, hails from a family dedicated to public service, with her father, Dilip Khedkar, having served as a retired administrative officer. The controversy surrounding Khedkar erupted when she was observed using a private Audi car equipped with a red-blue beacon and a “Government of Maharashtra” sticker in Pune. Even before officially assuming her role as assistant collector, she reportedly sought entitlements typically reserved for senior officials, including an official car with a VIP number plate, accommodations, and exclusive office space. These demands were deemed inappropriate for a probationary officer.Reports also suggested that her father used his influence to pressure the District Collector’s office to fulfill these demands. Instances such as allegedly removing a senior officer’s nameplate in Pune to occupy office space further fueled criticism against her.
As a result of these allegations, Pune District Collector Suhas Diwase recommended her transfer to Washim, citing administrative complexities and concerns over her conduct. Khedkar now serves as a supernumerary assistant collector until July 30, 2025, under directives issued by the Pune District Collector.
Allegations on OBC Status and Disabilities
Further scrutiny focused on Khedkar’s OBC status, with discrepancies emerging between her declared assets and the income threshold for OBC non-creamy layer certification. Additionally, questions arose regarding her claims of visual and mental disabilities, which she allegedly did not substantiate despite requests from the UPSC.
