McDonald’s is the largest fast-food chain in the world and accounted for 150,000 employees in 2023 alone.
With the famous golden arches never too far away from populated streets, it’s a go-to for many Britons seeking a quick bite to eat.
But according to one former staff member, known as stilakilla18 on Reddit, there are some items they would now never order having worked for McDonald’s.
Sharing their advice online, the Reddit member revealed that they spent most of their tenure preparing food and even served a year as a manager.
While other McDonald’s workers have previously warned against ordering certain burgers, stilakilla18 suggests it’s not just the food that should be avoided.
They claimed that certain drinks are also best left unordered.
“Drinks. Want to know how many times I’ve watched someone clean the nozzle for foundation drinks? ” they wrote in the thread.
According to the ex-employee, during their five-year stint, the machine nozzle was cleaned only twice.
Writing in the Reddit thread, they added : “You don’t even wanna know what waste comes out of the speciality drinks like frappe or latte.”
Despite supposed weekly cleanings, which rarely happened, the former worker described having a difficult time maintaining the frappe/smoothie machine.
They also advised against ordering ice cream, citing frequent clogs in the hose that required fixing “three times a day”.
Some forum users, however, contested the claim, pointing out that in their McDonald’s branches, the drink and frappe machines received a thorough cleaning every day.
One user declared: “We cleaned the drink machine and frappe machine every single overnight shift What kind of McDonald’s were you working at omg? “.
Another shared a different perspective: “Can’t say the same for the place I used to work at due to the fact I only worked the back.”
