When it comes to finding a bottomless brunch with great food there are plenty of choices out there. Especially in London.
However, I went to Rake’s Café Bar offers guests an escape from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
Located in London’s Liverpool Street, Rake’s is one of five bars and restaurants within Andaz London Liverpool Street and also serves as a five-star luxury lifestyle hotel.
The Café Bar was inspired by the 1733 fictional story of Tom Rakewell, told in a series of eight paintings by English artist William Hogarth called ‘A Rake’s Progress’.
Tom inherits a fortune from his miserly father – but then follows a path to vice and destruction.
These paintings can be seen at the nearby Sir John Soane’s Museum. The final painting in the series of eight, ‘The Mad House’, takes place in Bethlem Hospital or ‘Bedlam’, which is the location now occupied by Rake’s and Andaz London.
The term Rake dates back to the 18th Century and refers to a man most commonly interested in wine, women, gambling, sports and whatever else strikes their fancy. A Rake is, above all else, charming—and a little dangerous…you’ll know him when you meet him. By Oxford English definition, “a fashionable or wealthy man of immoral or promiscuous habits”.
But that’s enough about the history of the place. As a café by day and bar by night, Rake’s offers a wide range of food and drink options including breakfast, brunch and all-day dining in three separate and very distinct rooms.
Nevertheless, we were there to the bottomless brunch which had a fun vibe thanks to their DJ playing music throughout.
Our brunch lasted for the usual 90 minutes where we got to try three out of the eight cocktails signature cocktails which were included in the offer.
Service was great with regular drink top-ups meanwhile for food we got to try eggs benedict which was served with caviar.
It was the first thing that I had tried the fish eggs but keen to give it a go it has a very distinct taste and can truly say it isn’t for me.
For dessert, I opted for a classic cheesecake where you can’t go wrong the sweet treat and a great way to end a good value-for money brunch.
Tickets for Rake Cafe Bar’s Scandal Brunch cost £55 but it does include bottomless cocktails or prosecco, three courses to choose from the menu, weekly entertainment themes and of course a live DJ.
