‘I taste tested Asda’s cakes and was surprised by one item’

As Afternoon Tea Week is set to come to an end (12-18th August) we thought we would give Asda’s range a try.

The supermarket chain has a whole host of foods available for part of the week, with deals from just £1.19.

So, if you fancy a sweet treat then you will be pleasantly surprised by Asda’s food but in particular one delicious item.

First of all, we got to try Asda’s Extra Special Fruit Tartlets (£3 for a pack of four). Each tart is baked in all-butter pastry and filled with Sicilian lemon cream and crème patisserie, topped with sweet strawberries and juicy blueberries.

You can certainly taste the lemon with the right amount of sharpness.

Next up was the Extra Special Tarte Au Citron (£4.75) which is another deliciously zesty choice.

It is baked in an all-butter pastry base with a layer of white chocolate and it is filled with a zingy lemon custard made with free-range eggs and British cream.

Now for some French-inspired treats which are the Toffee Meringues from The Bakery by Asda (£2 for two).

These are dipped in a chocolate-flavoured coating and filled with a toffee cream. They’re a sweet treat deserving of a place on your tea stand and certainly taste and look like they cost more.

However, the creme-de-la-creme out of the range has to The Bakery at Asda’s Jam and Cream Scones (£2 for a two-pack).

For those looking to mark the occasion with a traditional cream tea, these are the perfect choice.

Putting an end to the age-old dispute over which comes first, each scone is pre-filled with sweet strawberry jam and fresh British cream and finished with a dusting of icing sugar.

Even better the supermarket didn’t scrape with the cream as each bite tasted as good as the last.

Other items included in the range are Asda’s Extra Special Macarons (£1.75 pack of four), Asda’s Extra Special Morello Cherry and White Chocolate Cheesecake (£5) and Asda’s Lemon Cheesecake (£4.50).
