I keep my grapes crunchy for three weeks with genius fridge storage solution

Fresh grapes are one of the most loved snacks throughout the entire year, coming in a variety of colours and flavours.

Grapes tend to go bad or mouldy after a few days because they have a high water content and thin skin which makes them susceptible to bacteria.

Luckily, I have mastered grape storage, and they now last for around three weeks in my fridge, staying firm and crunchy.

This starts in the supermarket when looking for a packet of grapes to buy. It’s important to search for ones which aren’t already wrinkled or packed too tightly in the box.

Look for ones with strong, slightly green stems as a withered brown one could indicate they have already lost moisture.

Once home, it’s important to keep the fruit dry and avoid washing them straight away.

Many people wash all of their fruit as soon as it is home and then place it in the fridge, but this will cause grapes to spoil much faster.

It’s also important to store them in the correct location, and grapes left at room temperature will go inedible in a couple of days.

I store my grapes in the fridge, opting for the crisper drawer, also known as a humidity drawer.

These are the drawers located at the bottom of the fridge, designed to keep fresh produce fresher for longer.

As well as opting for this area of the fridge, I also use a food storage container box which is designed to keep produce fresh. I purchased it from Dunelm for £6, but many retailers sell them these days including The Range and B&M.

The description reads: “A multipurpose fridge storage container, perfect for keeping your fresh produce fresher for longer.

“Designed with a transparent outer container and a dual vented storage basket, great for placing fruits and veg inside.”

The vented storage basket is ideal for washing and draining, whilst the airtight clips allow the produce to remain fresh.

Grapes will not last for very long if they do not have any ventilation, so I leave this clip open.

Storing the grapes in the bottom of the fridge along with this storage box means my fruit lasts for three weeks.

In this time, they do not grow mould, or turn soggy, and retain their nice crisp texture.
