How to tell if an avocado is ready: Viral hack shows ripeness level without opening it

Are you tired of cutting into avocados only to find they’re not quite ready? Fear not, for we have all the answers to this pressing conundrum.

Slicing into that green delight and finding it disappointingly firm as you’re ready to enjoy a recipe you crafted carefully can be annoying.

Once that cut is made, there’s no turning back, and that £2 could have been a tiny step towards your Housing ISA.

But, lo and behold, there is a trick to save your snack and your finances, reports the Mirror.

TikTok content creator Sidney Raz, boasting almost five million fans and just shy of 147 million likes, enlightens us with the secret of “peek holes” – a telltale sign an avocado is ripe for the taking.

For those who are trying to save money but still want to enjoy their avocado on toast, this trick is for you.

The TikTokker reveals: “Here’s something I wish I knew before I was in my 30s. How to tell when an avocado is ripe enough to eat.”

He then explains: “They have peek holes.” Here the TikTokker is referring to the pip at the top of the avocado which is usually removed when peeling the fruit.

He continues: “Pop these off. This one looks ready, this one looks next closest to being ready and this one looks the farthest from being ready.”

The TikTokker points to each avocado in order of ripeness as there is a little “peek hole” at the top of the fruit once the pip has been removed and this is how to tell the ripeness of the fruit without cutting into it.

Commenters have been dishing out their advice on how to check if an avocado is ripe, with one individual noting: “I heard if you push the little thing (the pip at the top) down it’s ripe.”

Another added their technique: “So if it is soft enough to feel spongy/soft it’s over ripe. if it’s spongy firm like your inner wrist it’s perfect. Any harder needs time.”

A third keeping it straightforward mentioned: “I just squeeze them gently if it’s soft-ish, it’s good enough for me.”

It’s not unusual to judge an avocado’s ripeness by its colour, since many will darken as they ripen, and a riper texture might feel bumpier.

Yet often it’s down to a simple, gentle squeeze to determine whether an avocado is ready to be sliced open and savoured.
