If you’ve ever ordered a takeaway pizza on the weekend, you will likely have accidentally ordered too much at one point or another.
Throughout the week, many people resort to eating their leftover pizza cold or heating it in the microwave which can result in a soggy, cheesy mess.
With this in mind, experts at Just Spices have shared the “perfect hack” to reheat pizza in the microwave without it turning soggy.
1. Storage
Before your leftover pizza is tucked away in the fridge, you need to think about how you store it.
Pizza slices should not be stored at room temperature overnight as the dough will become soggy. Bacteria can also grow on food that’s left out at room temperature overnight so it’s worth storing it properly.
Instead, cover the slices with cling film and put them in the fridge. If the pizza was delivered in a box, take it out to store the pizza in the fridge.
The experts added: “The cardboard will absorb the moisture from the sauce and toppings, and your pizza will soon be a sodden heap of misery.”
2. Microwave
After a night in the fridge, your pizza can be transferred to the microwave for reheating.
Normally, pizza gets soggy quickly in the microwave and can lose flavour. However, the experts have shared a “simple trick” that will result in a “crispy pizza crust in no time at all”.
Place the pizza slices on a plate and cover them with another plate so there’s still a space between them.
Next, put a glass of water in the microwave with the pizza before heating everything for a couple of minutes.
The steam from the water ensures the dough remains crispy and delicious.
3. Heat the pizza in a pan
If you don’t have a microwave, you can use a conventional pan and some aluminium foil. Heat it and wait until the pan is hot.
Then, add the leftover pizza and cover the pan with the tin foil. It’s important not to put any fat like olive oil in the pan otherwise, the dough will quickly become soggy.
Wait until the cheese has melted, remove it from the pan and enjoy your crispy pizza.
